So I Did A Thing…

So, I did a thing… I created a photography website, and it’s terrifying! I have taken pictures of family and friends for YEARS, and it has been a hobby I love and enjoy. I’ve picked up clients through word of mouth, only agreeing to photograph those that I was 100% sure would love their photos. Translate: They like me so they are automatically going to love anything I do, and there is ZERO chance of disappointing anyone. I edited images and uploaded them to Shutterfly albums so that people could quickly and easily view, print, and share their images. Life was good, and we were all having fun.

Between last Christmas and this Spring something shifted. A dear friend appointed herself my one-woman marketing team, and I started getting request after request for senior photos. She kept asking me to give her pricing information to share, and I kept ignoring those requests. Hey, just because I took beautiful pictures of your EXTREMELY GORGEOUS daughter does NOT mean that I can do the same for anyone and everyone off the streets, and I definitely was not up for advertising. I work off of word of mouth and have a high fear of rejection, remember?  But, I started booking senior sessions that turned into family sessions that turned into everything else under the sun, and I’ve been BUSY, and it’s been amazing!

I’ve been busy enough that as fun and easy as Shutterfly is, I really need to upgrade where my albums are hosted. So I bit the bullet and set up a hosted site. Seems simple, right? Not at all. Maybe setting up the site was easy, but putting my photos out there in a public format for the world to see? That’s makes me want to sit in a corner and rock and cry and then go hide under a bed. But alas, here we go…

My one little work for this year is FAITH, and I’m choosing to take a leap of faith and put myself and my photos out there. BE KIND PEOPLE. I need this hobby to stay fun, and no one wants to see me after I’ve pulled my hair out while curled in a ball under the kitchen table.
